BlackFrame Branding

Logo identity for BlackFrame Business Solutions; certified FileMaker developers Sydney Australia. Blackframe Logo The idea was to make a modern company which works in desktop + mobile database management tools and development feel as though it was a trusted and established brand. We looked at 1970s Airway companies during our research and due to the name “Black+Frame” we started thinking of ideas surrounding 1950s working men, men at the CIA during the Cuban missile crisis or NASA. We wanted an edgy, crisp and strong typeface to communicate that BlackFrame will cement itself within the forever changing tech industry. The themes of loyalty, honour, hardworking and smart solutions are essential to the no bullshit approach my client always takes to the ethos of business. Colours: Black was an obvious choice but here’s a thing; I never use a true/pure black if I can get away with it. It never hurts to have a slight soft approach. A gold/orange helps show a warmth, a feeling of welcome and a persistence to succeed. Font: Nexa Light & Bold BlackFrame Business Card We used Whirlwind print for the 3mm curved edges business card in Sydney and a matt cello finish. The size is also slightly smaller than the standard 90mm x 55mm size. Yes, I might use Whirlwind again, better quality than other online printers I can assure you. The Front (Logo-side) Black Rectangle & Frame: Using a 1950s image vectorised in Illustrator Live Trace feature, we use inspiration from a space station Apollo landing photograph and a pair of black framed glasses are visible on the right hand side in homage to the brand name. Using a palette knife effect the black and white image portrays a classic, 1950s atmosphere to launch the brand into the strasophere of Filemaker Business Solutions. The black rectangle essentially is symbolically of the introduction, the sign, a handshake between a new customer and the workings of BlackFrame. The black rectangle is placed like a company’s logo on an entry window, but there is more to it. We played around with a “pun” – Black Frame; the fact is, that the inside of the frame is black and the actual frame is not in fact black, rather a stylised image of workers busy at work. We want to make people think and we wanted people to feel, oh yeah, “BlackFrame” those guys do a lot of work behind the scenes. The Data Type: Playing around with client problems we set to work with an idea which was loosely based on brainstorming sessions surrounding what data can symbolically be represented by; we went through icon symbols, the matrix over done 10101011′s, then we returned to the theme of “making people think” – the BlackFrame business is modelled on supplying clients with clever, quick solutions that they can apply to their Sales business and engage with quick performance styled CRM views. So with this theme we added “Playful” – an interactive and creative solution that would engage a first-time customer to turn client upon first sight, dreamy right. We set up to work with word games; the data represents what word we wished to end with, decided upon to be BLACKFRAME (the answer to your data jumbling needs). We set to work with 11 lines of text where each “A” letter moved one space each time in a pattern which the user could code, nerdy? weird? Well we had an idea to have this as an incentive to receive a promotional deal to those willing to engage. We ended up randomly jumbling the letter forms so that the data type represents the mess, the client problem of their data and BlackFrame being the answer, the clarity, the solution to the problem at hand. So there you go jubblies. Cryptic, playful, clever and coming soon to Sales companies very soon…BlackFrame. Think outside & in. (I just made that up, not approved by BlackFrame. Damo, free copyline there for you :) ) The Back (Details) So, it was a pleasure to trial my first vCard business card with Damien. It was something I have dabbled with and tested in the past. It was an easy add to have a quick, smart solution of easily integrating a contact to your mobile? How? Just scan the vCard QR code and hey presto! No more annoying data entry. Yes, BlackFrame is all about efficiencies and so is Sendinthefox. I recommend downloading an iOS app called QRReader by Tapmedia Ltd.
